Poem – Can I Travel There

A crooked smile

As she asks a question.

“Can I travel freely here?”

“Can’t we already?” I ask.

The smile again.

A smokers wet laugh.

Making me think

Of whiskey neat,

And the thrum of a honky tonk tune

In a smoky juke joint.

While I stand in the library wondering,

Can I travel there?
